The UAW has been losing workers at a fairly brisk pace over most of the last three decades, but thanks to the recovery in the automotive industry, the UAW has posted membership gains for the first time in six years.
The gain of six percent boosts the membership total, but it's still at just one-quarter of what it was during the UAW's peak years.
The UAW may gain even more members this year as the industry recovers, but it still won't be enough to stem the tide of decline. The only way the UAW can do that is by continuing to target the so-called transplants for organization.
