Despite reports yesterday that July sales might slide, they actually rose by one percent, thanks to demand for crossovers and fuel-efficient small cars.
The seasonally-adjusted sales rate now stands 12.24 million units, which is the best since April. That gives hope that a rebound is on the way, despite challenges such as the disasters in Japan, high fuel prices, and a sluggish overall economy.
A lot of work remains to be done, but these numbers are a sign that demand might finally be increasing in the second half of 2011.
